About the Event

This Manufacturing Growth Alliance (MGA) course will feature experts from the Michigan Department of Corrections and Offender Success to share how Returning Citizens (those who have returned to the community after serving time) can be a great resource to alleviate workforce challenges.

Returning citizens face many barriers as they return to the community from incarceration.  Through the efforts of the Offender Employment & Opportunities Unit and the Offender Success Administrative Agencies, many of these barriers are reduced.

The Offender Employment & Opportunities Unit works with employers across the state to put returning citizens back to work in jobs that can provide self-sufficiency. The Offender Success Administrative Agencies provide many supportive and wrap around services to help these individuals adjust to life after incarceration and get back on their feet.

In this presentation, you will learn about what these programs have to offer. How the programs support returning citizens as they engage with employers, providing small manufacturers with an excellent workforce pool. You will also hear about how these programs and your willinging to give a person a second chance make a difference in someone’s life.

Guest Speakers include:

  • Ryan Powell, Manager of the Offender Employment and Opportunities Unit at the Michigan Department of Corrections
  • Angela Sprank, Community Coordinator of the Offender Success Program

The Manufacturing Growth Alliance (MGA) was founded to champion, serve, and advocate for Michigan’s small manufacturers.  More importantly, it provides services that drive solutions that will make manufacturing in Michigan the most competitive and prosperous in the nation.  For more information or to become a member, visit MGAlliance.org.
